This Friday, on January 10, 2014 MCC specialists took a decision on unscheduled spacewalks to be performed on January 27 or 28 by Russian crew members Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky to install video cameras onto external surface of the ISS, – MCC representative reported.

“The commission has made a decision, the dates are set.  The spacewalk is to take place either on January 27 or January 28. When exactly we’ll learn on Monday, January 13 since this issue is not settled yet. Probably the spacewalk will start at  night from January 27 to 28. We have the dates but because of the uncertainty with time of works’ beginning it is still not clear when exactly the spacewalk will take place. The total duration of works outside the station will amount to 6 hours”, – the spokesman stated.

Earlier MCC representative said that during this unscheduled spacewalk Kotov and Ryazansky will have to install medium and high resolution video cameras onto the ISS external surface. There are no other tasks set for the cosmonauts. During the latter spacewalk on December 27 the cameras installed didn’t work. Kotov and Ryazansky had to demount them and bring back inside the station. Due to that the duration of spacewalk had to be increased from 7 to 8 hours and 10 minutes.
