Zvezda Reseach and Production Enterprise situated in Moscow region has almost completed the testing of reusable EVA spacesuit called Orlan-MKS.

New Orlan spacesuit is equipped with thermal control system and colour liquid-crystal display to observe life-support system indices. Besides it was polyurethane not the rubber spacesuit protective covers were made of.  This material is expected to increase the spacesuit’s reliability and prolong its service life at least by half.

“Current Orlan spacesuits enable to perform not more than 15 spacewalks while Orlan-MKS will enable to perform at least 20, – the manufacturing plant reports.

According to Zvezda Research and Production Centre Testing Department Head Mikhail Gunbin new Orlan spacesuit was designed for Moon flights and may be modified. At the present time the scientists are testing spacesuit’s built-in computer.
