Roscosmos State Corporation has finished accepting applications for participation in the open competition for the selection of candidates for the Russian Cosmonaut team, which was announced on June 3, 2019. Due to the limitations caused by COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided that applicants who had submitted a partial package of documents before June 1, 2020, will be able to participate by submitting the missing documents by the end of this month.
From the start of the competition till May 31, 2020, the Competition Commission has accepted 1,404 applications. At the same time, a full package of necessary documents was provided by 156 applicants, including 123 men and 33 women. During the extramural stage of the competition, which will last until June 30, 2020, the Competition Commission considered more than 90 per cent of applications. At the time of publication, 28 candidates (including 3 women) had already been invited to the in-person selection stage.
