The crew of the 64th long-term expedition to the International Space Station will undergo joint training at the Cosmonaut Training Center in preparation for the flight, which is scheduled to begin in October this year. The ISS-64 crew includes Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov, Sergei Kud-Sverchkov and NASA astronaut Kathleen Rubins. The backup crew includes Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky and Pyotr Dubrov, NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hai.
On July 20, 2020, on the eve of the immersion in the hydro laboratory, cosmonaut Sergei Ryzhikov, who has one space flight, and cosmonaut Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, who will fly to the ISS for the first time, tried on Orlan spacesuits. This week, it is planned to conduct further tests of the hydro-laboratory systems with the participation of the ISS-64 crew cosmonauts, who will work out typical extravehicular activities and the targets planned by the spacewalk program.
According to the training schedule for the Russian crew members, Sergei Ryzhikov and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov will perform classes on conducting scientific experiments related to human research in space and space exploration technologies,researches in the field of medicine and biology. The cosmonauts will be given lectures on the systems of the Soyuz MS manned spacecraft and the Russian segment of the ISS, as well as trainings to consolidate the skills of controlling the spacecraft, in particular, certain modes.
These days for Sergei Ryzhikov and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, the final tasting of the in-flight meals will take place. Cosmonauts from Roscosmos and a NASA astronaut will try on flight clothes that they will wear while working at the station.
As part of training as part of the ISS-64 crew, the current week for NASA astronaut Kathleen Rubins is filled with lectures, practical exercises and consultations on studying the Russian segment of the International Space Station and the Soyuz-MS manned transport spacecraft, its design and layout, as well as communication systems and direction finding.
