Tonight Russian Mission Control Centre may accomplish debris avoidance maneuver aimed at protecting ISS from the debris of Chinese satellite. Roscosmos is scrutinizing the level of threat a fragment of Chinese meteosat may pose to the ISS.

The meteosat was shot down in 2007 during the testing of anti-satellite weapon conducted by China. The fragment will approach the ISS at a dangerous distance at 03.56, Moscow time on November 12.

In case the debris avoidance maneuver is accomplished orbit adjustment operation planned for November 16 will be cancelled.

“At 23.15, Moscow time on November 10 Progress MS-18 cargo vehicle thrusters will be ignited. The impulse will be about 0,7 meters per second and the total time of engines operation amount to 361 seconds”, – Roscosmos press office reports.
