The RSC Energia specialists will take part in a number of scientific research conducted by the Russian Institute of Biomedical problems.
SIRIUS (Scientific International Research In Unique Terrestrial Station) is an experiment which is now conducted to prepare for deep-space flights and primarily to the near-lunar station. The research participants will spend from 17 days up to one year isolated in the experimental ground complex of the Institute of Biomedical problems.
The experiment candidates include test engineers of the aerospace Corporation centre: Natalya Titinkina, Artyom Knyazev, Darya Jidova and Dmitryi Dyakov.
‘We closely cooperate with the Institute of Biomedical problems on the ISS programme with prospect of joint preparation for deep-space flights. I personally participated in the first SIRIUS mission, was the mission commander in 2017 and took part in the dry immersion experiment with the aim to study the influence of zero-gravity. For us, SIRIUS is a testing range for trying out new solutions and equipment, research programmes and the crew actions’, said Mark Serov, the Deputy Head of the Energia aerospace centre.

By the end of November, the already approved crew will undergo a “dry run” in the experimental complex while the SIRIUS experiment itself is scheduled for February 2019.
