Testing of RD-191M finalisation engines has been successfully completed at NPO Energomash’s research and test facility.

The single-chamber liquid-propellant engine is designed for the Angara-A5M heavy-lift launch vehicle of the Amur space rocket system. RD-191M is fuelled by paraffin and liquid oxygen.

When creating the RD-191M, the design and technology base of the RD-191, RD-171M, RD-180, and RD-181 engines were used to the maximum extent possible. This significantly reduced development costs and made it possible to create and conduct a full cycle of autonomous testing of its units in a shorter time. The first RD-191M finalisation engine was produced at NPO Energomash at the end of 2023.

The RD-191M differs from the “basic” RD-191 engine primarily in terms of thrust level – it is boosted by 10 percent. In the future, this will expand the possibilities of sending cargo for the projected new Russian orbital station.
