Russia and Armenia can launch satellite in 3 years if we conclude the contract in 2014, – Roscosmos Head deputy Sergey Savelyev reported.

According to him currently both parties are working to organize cooperation in the field of space exploration results use in national economy, for the needs of security and infrastructure as well as in the field of Earth remote sensing satellite and GLONASS navigational technologies  information use. “Furthermore Russia is ready to help Armenia to join space countries, – he underlined having mentioned Armenia’s experience got in the Soviet period.

In USSR time Armenian enterprises took active part in Soviet Union space program development, manufacturing component parts and some  units for Soviet space systems, – Savelyev said. He also informed that under Roscosmos’ auspices Burakan Observatory of Armenia is being renewed at the present time.

“The observatory was out of use for a long period of time. Just several days ago we delivered there telescopes manufactured in Russia particularly from the observatory’s needs. These telescopes are being installed at the present time. We do it all so that the observatory could monitor the space to predict any dangerous space situations possible, to prevent satellites collision, to control space debris and to solve asteroid and comet safety problems, – the spokesman emphasized.

Roscosmos Head deputy concluded that Russia and Armenia work on the satellite launch project. “The works in this direction are under way. Now we define what the satellite will look like and conduct necessary technical tests. If we sign the contract next year I believe in 3 years we’ll launch the satellite”.
