The cosmonauts of Roscosmos, Sergei Prokopiev and Oleg Kononenko, on December 11, 2018 at 18:59 (Moscow time), opened the hatch of the ‘Pirs’ docking compartment and went into open space.

The program of extravehicular activity 45A (VKD-45A) related to works on the outer surface of the International Space Station.

After the main task will be completed, Oleg Kononenko and Sergey Prokopiev will have to remove two devices with samples of microorganisms as part of the “Test” experiment and dismantle the panel of the “Endurance” space experiment samples from the outer surface of the station, during which the influence of open space factors on various characteristics of the materials was studied.

The estimated duration of the Russian cosmonauts spacewalk in open space is more than 6 hours.
