The preparation works for Proton-M booster launch with Briz-M upper stage and Express-AM5 space device are under way at Baikonur spaceport.

Khrunichev Centre and Yuzhny space centre specialists started general assembling of the space rocket that is mating of the booster with the nose head consisting of Briz-M upper stage and Express-AM5 communication space device installed under the nose fairing.

Express-AM5 satellite is the 1st space device developed by Reshetnev ISS on the basis of Express-2000 heavy class platform. The satellite was ordered by national operator Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Space Communication”, it is designed to provide Russia with digital tele- and radiobroadcasing, to solve mobile president and government communication tasks, and for other services (telephony, videoconferencing, data transmission, Internet access) as well as creation of communication Network on the basis of VSAT technology.

Upon completion of all tests of electrical connections between the booster and upper stage the rocket will be transferred to the propellant service unit where Briz-M upper stage low-pressure tanks will be filled with propellant components.

The launch is scheduled for December 26, Roscosmos press service reports.
