NPO Energomash concluded with American Corporation Orbital Science a contract for delivery of RD-181 engines to be used for the first stage of Antares rocket from 2015.

“We undertook to deliver 60 engines. At the present time we have a firm contract for 20 engines we have already started implementing. Thus we will deliver the first two engines in June 2015. This is the direct contract between Orbital Sciences Corporation and NPO Energomash, – Roscosmos spokesman reported.

The sum of the contract amounts to about 1 billion dollars, including not only the price of the engine itself but the whole range of services: flight preparations, installation on the rocket and testing.

The spokesman stated that RD-181 engine was developed by Energomash especially for Antares.
