The training of cosmonauts and astronauts on the actions after landing in a wooded area in winter starts in Star City.

According to legend, the descent vehicle landed in the snowy taiga, where there are no living areas nearby.

The task is to spend two days in the forest in conditions, close to those, in which the crew of the “Voskhod-2” ship (Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyaev) were in March 1965.

The first to start the struggle for survival in low-temperature conditions were candidates to cosmonauts Konstantin Borisov, Oleg Platonov and Sergey Mikayev.

In total, this time in the GCTC will be “winter survival” of seven crews.

All crews, participating in the training sessions, first take theoretical and practical lessons on the tactics of actions after landing of the descent vehicle in extreme conditions, using tools and equipment, available on board of the spacecraft.

Under the terms of the training, cosmonauts and astronauts inside the descent vehicle must take off their spacesuits and change into a set of clothes, available on board, then go out and build several types of shelters, conduct an established radio exchange, provide medical assistance to the injured and interact with the search and rescue forces.

The training is conducted by the GCTC test and training team, which consists of instructors, doctors, psychologists and other specialists.
