At the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N.E. Zhukovsky performed a test phase of the manned transport ship “OREL”, which is being developed at RSC “Energia” (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation).

The subject of research was the aerodynamic characteristics of the lid of a parachute container during its separation from the return vehicle.

The separation of the lid of the parachute container is directly related to the using of the parachute system of the returned vehicle, therefore its reliable and shock-free separation is the key to ensuring crew safety.

The tests were carried out on a model ship in a large transonic wind tunnel T-128 TSzAGI in subsonic mode using an automated test equipment.

“OREL” – a manned transport spacecraft of a new generation, developed in the RSC “Energia”.

Its purpose is the delivery of people and goods outside the low Earth orbit, including to the Moon.
