Humanlike robot designed for spacewalks will be demonstrated to the specialists and journalists in Star City on November 27,  GCTC representative reported.

The robot is equipped with two manipulating arms with grippers similar to human fingers at the end. The robot can not only  copy operator’s movements but also transmit sounds and images with the help of tactile functions. SAR-401 weights 144 kg and can lift up to 10 kg, – the spokesman noted. According to him this robot will be used for spacewalks and for work in depressurized modules of spacecrafts. To practice the cooperation between the robot and the operator experimentally its 3-dimension model was designed.

SAR-401 was developed by “Android technologies” Scientific development and production center upon request of  TSNIIMASH . It can be controlled remotely in so called “copying” mode: operator puts on special suit and executes necessary movements which will be transmitted to robot my means of software/hardware interface.
