The GCTC continues to prepare crews for the forthcoming expedition to the ISS. One of its stages is the “Typical Flight Day” test, which shows the level of readiness to operate the systems of the Russian segment of the station. Cosmonauts demonstrate skills of work on board, as well as knowledge of the algorithm of actions in case of emergencies.
A typical day on the simulator was “lived” by Kirill Peskov, who duplicates Crew-9 crew member Alexander Gorbunov.
During the eight-hour training session, the cosmonaut performed various types of work. They included: maintenance of the segment’s life support systems, replacing a battery in the power system, updating software on one of the station’s laptops, and conducting several scientific experiments.
An additional test for the crew members is the introduction of an emergency by the Centre’s instructors, which must be recognised and, if possible, eliminated. This time Kirill Peskov faced depressurisation on the Russian segment.
In the course of the training, work was carried out with photo and video equipment both as part of experiments on remote sensing of the Earth and for recording video messages from aboard the station. In addition, a member of the Crew-9 backup crew participated in medical research.
According to the assessment of the instructor team that observed all of Kirill’s actions, the cosmonaut performed all the necessary work in the optimum time. The specialists highly appreciated his clear and competent actions.
