New armament race in space, contamination of near-Earth space and asteroid danger are the most important threats to space activities of developed countries, – Roscosmos Head deputy Sergey Savelyev reported.
At the 1st stage it is very important to come to understanding of the threats, their priority and interdependence. To our mind such threats are first of all the danger of new armament race in the space, near-Earth space contamination increasing the opportunity of satellites collision and asteroid danger, – Savelyev stated in his report at International Space Exploration Conference in the USA.
According to him these threats require effective prevention, minimization and neutralization strategies to be developed on the international level.
The issue on ISS further operation was also discussed during the summit. USA representatives confirmed their decision to prolong their participation in this program minimum by 2024 and maintain ISS operation ability together with Russia even in case other parties do not take part in the program any more.
The international conference on Space Exploration took place in Washington on January 9-10.
