In June 2018, it will be the 55 years anniversary of the flight of the world’s first female cosmonaut.

It was performed on June 16, 1963, and this achievement belongs to Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, Hero of the Soviet Union, candidate of technical sciences, professor of the Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy, Major-General of Aviation.

Her space flight Valentina Tereshkova performed on the spacecraft “Vostok-6”, it lasted almost three days.

The start was made on Baikonur cosmodrome at 12 hours 29 minutes 51 seconds, but not from the “Gagarin” site, but from the backup.

The duration of the flight was 2 days 22 hours 50 minutes, range – 1 million 971 thousand km.

The world’s first female cosmonaut (call name – “Chayka”) performed 48 turns around the Earth.

At the same time, the “Vostok-5” spaceship, manned by the cosmonaut Valery Bykovsky, was on orbit.

During the flight, Valentina Tereshkova led a logbook and took photographs of the horizon, which were later used to detect aerosol layers in the atmosphere.

The descent vehicle of the “Vostok-6” spacecraft landed safely in the Bayevsky district of the Altai Territory.

Now Valentina Tereshkova is 81 years old, she holds the post of a member of the Russian Parliament (State Duma), as well as the deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on the federal structure and issues of local self-government.
