According to RIA Novosti,  Russian enterprise Android Technics is developing a new robot SAR-401; at the end of September it will be tested in Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, the executive manager of the enterprise Vladislav Sychkov told journalists.

At the beginning of this project the company together with Cosmonaut Training Center performed cirtain researches on possibilities of using humanoid robots in space. The main customer of the project – TSNIIMASH – took a favorable view of specialists’ efforts.

“Today we completed the R&D on the new basic joint – the robot’s shoulder with three degrees of freedom. And we keep working on the new grapple fixture. At the end of these activities we’ll create the full-function prototype of the space robot “, — Sychkov said.

As executive manager of Android Technics explained, due to the fact in space it doesn’t need to move using its legs, the model is comprised by torso, two arms and the head module. Arm manipulators are the key elements of this system. Such robot will be controlled remotely from the Earth.
